If you’re planning a weekend in Hiiumaa and wondering where to stay, what to do and which places are truly worth visiting, Kassari is a wonderful place to slow down and experience the island at its best.
But here’s our first piece of advice: don’t try to see everything.
Hiiumaa is not a place for rushing from one attraction to another. Take your time, follow the weather, stop when you see something beautiful and leave some space in your plans for doing absolutely nothing.
Hiiumaa Summerhouse is our home away from home in Orjaku, Kassari. Over time, we’ve found our own favourite places, walks, views and little island rituals.

Things to Do in Kassari: 10 Places We Recommend
Kassari may be small, but there is much more to discover here than you might expect.
Connected to Hiiumaa by two small causeways, this little island is known for its open coastal landscapes, juniper fields, quiet roads and the feeling that the sea is never very far away.
Hiiumaa Summerhouse is located in Orjaku, on the western side of Kassari, so these are the places we return to ourselves and recommend to our guests.

What is luxury?
For us, it has very little to do with how much something costs.
Luxury is waking up to silence. It is having nowhere you need to be. Walking barefoot outside with your first coffee of the morning. Sitting under the pines and noticing that the only thing interrupting the quiet is the sound of birds or the wind moving through the trees.
Luxury is time.
And perhaps that is what we have come to value most about life at Hiiumaa Summerhouse.
Winter in Hiiumaa: A Magical Christmas in Kassari
Christmas feels different in Hiiumaa.
In December, the nights are longer than the days. The sun stays low, darkness arrives early, and the island grows wonderfully quiet. And perhaps that is exactly why the light we create ourselves becomes so much more meaningful.
At Hiiumaa Summerhouse in Kassari, Christmas means candles glowing in the windows, a fire in the fireplace and warm light against the dark winter evening. Outside, everything is still. And if we are lucky, a fresh blanket of snow makes the world around the house even quieter.
